Dave Butcher’s black and white landscape photography courses for film and digital users, are held in the stunning locations of The Peak District, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland and Scotland.
Held in small groups (five at maximum) with tutors Dave and Jan Butcher, these courses are suitable for users of film and digital cameras, from low cost pocket-sized compacts to digital SLRs and medium format. They balance art and technique with practical one-to-one tuition and guidance on location.
Courses cover composition, use of light, coloured filters for film users, methods of filtering for digital users, light meters and exposure (including histograms on digital cameras) and the use of tripods. They are suitable for complete beginners to experienced photographers.
Personal tuition is available on either an individual basis or for a small group of friends in areas throughout the UK, and can also be arranged for dates outside of the normal courses calendar.
Ilford FP4 film is provided for 35mm and 120 film cameras.

Learn the easy way to make great prints with an Ilford Master Printer on this workshop for beginners and improvers. Held in Dave Butcher’s darkroom in the Peak District.
Workshops consist of a short presentation illustrated with prints to show specific techniques, followed by a demonstration of split grade printing. Most of the day is spent printing your negatives using Ilford Multigrade papers. Negatives of 35mm, 120 and up to 5 x 4 inches can be used. Each person receives individual tuition. A mix of standards are catered for on all courses. Basic print assessment of exposure and contrast is covered in some detail throughout the day. You can expect to make between 2 and 5 really good prints in a day.

All materials including Ilford Multigrade paper (usually 16 x 12 inch) and refreshments are included in the price. 2 places available per course.
